Westholme School
Westholme offers a broad-based academic education supported by superb modern facilities and resources.
Each girl has the opportunity to develop her own individual skills and personality within our structured and caring community. As she grows older, she will be encouraged to take decisions and assume leadership so that when she eventually leaves school, she will be qualified in all respects to play her part in shaping the future.
Acknowledged as one of the leading independent girls' schools in the North West, Westholme was founded in 1923. It is based on three sites: the co-educational Lower School at Billinge House for girls and boys aged 3 - 7 years, the Middle School at Beardwood Bank for girls aged 7 - 11 years and the Upper School at Wilmar Lodge for girls aged 11-18 years. From September 2003 Westholme School for Boys will offer single-sex education to boys aged 7-11 years. There are now over 1100 students at Westholme (700 in the Upper School), yet the atmosphere remains intimate and friendly. An extensive building programme has given the Upper School impressive facilities such as the information technology suite, science block, a performing arts theatre seating 700+, and most recently a library with full multimedia and independent language-learning facilities. The grounds are extensive and command a spectacular view over the Ribble Valley. The School plans to extend its Sixth Form facilities in the very near future.
Sports & Leisure facilities
In sport the emphasis is upon personal and collective enjoyment and achievement. There are teams in athletics, badminton, cross-country, hockey, football, netball, tennis and rounders. They have all competed successfully at town and county levels. Other activities include aerobics, dance, gymnastics, health-related fitness, volley ball, water ballet and water polo.
